New Ground Zero Viewing Area:
The request for Family members who lost Loved Ones in the September 11 terrorist attacks to have a better private place to view the site was finally granted. This request was made in our last meeting with Mayor Bloomberg on February 27th.
Mayor Bloomberg has announced the creation of a new Family Room, in response to requests made by families of WTC victims. This will replace the family viewing area on South End Avenue and Liberty Street. The Family Room will open for the first time on Monday, April 8th at the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC) offices on the 20th floor of One Liberty Plaza. This private area, located on the perimeter of the WTC site, will enable families of victims to observe the site throughout the remainder of the recovery effort. "For those families who continue to cope with the pain resulting from September 11th, there is now a new place for them to come and view the site with privacy and dignity," said Mayor Bloomberg.
The family room will be open Monday - Friday, 8am - 9pm, and on weekends and holidays from 8am - 6pm. Tables, chairs and couches have been donated, and the room will also include a children's area. Please bring a valid photo ID as well as your case number (beginning with the letter 'P' or 'T') to gain access to the Family Room.
At the request of family members, the LMDC will be moving the blue panel walls with messages from family members from the previous viewing site in the new Family Room.
